Hilary Masemann
Hello, my name is Hilary and I work with adolescents and adults. I became a therapist because I believe in the process of therapy – connecting with someone who is interested in you and your deeper experience of life can change everything. It certainly did so for me.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), accredited with the CRPO. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was first a ceramic artist / potter, and then a high school teacher. I loved teaching but I wanted to work one-on-one with people and help people in a deeper way. My experience as a teacher informs my love for working with teens and young adults.
I am trained in Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I also use theories and techniques from Internal Family Systems (Parts Work) and Art Therapy. I provide an accepting space in which you have autonomy. We will work together to figure out how best to help you reach your goals. Our task in therapy is to untangle the many different strands in your life that may be causing you to feel stuck. We want to understand, accept and honour the essential YOU – what you want, who you are, and the life you CHOOSE.
Some things I can help you with are:
identity / self-acceptance
emotional regulation / managing stress
developing healthy relationships / setting boundaries
making life transitions (childhood to adolescence, adolescence to adulthood, new jobs, new relationships, becoming a parent)
low mood / depression
anxiety / racing thoughts / thought loops
climate anxiety and climate grief
working through past experiences
infertility / pregnancy loss
parenting stress
I am the mother of a 6-year-old and the stepmother of 19- and 22-year-olds. When I am not working, I love weight training, reading, knitting, sewing, and being outside in nature. In the summer I go on canoe trips.
I offer sessions online and in-person. You can book a 15-minute free consultation on my Booking Website Here
